Sunglases from Rodenstock

History
There have always been situations where man has
tried to protect his eyes against the prevailing dazzling light conditions, At
first, instruments were constructed which, based on the principle of screwing
up your eyes, reduced the opening for the incident light to a narrow slit,
barer, the first coloured lenses were used, In 1716 a glass grinder by the name
of Hertel recommended that "which gives somewhat green light is better than the
totally white light, as this dazzles, and held before the eyes helps increase
the vision"

In 1877, upon opening thiis first retail shop in Würzburg, Josef
Rodenstock also offered a small selection of sunglasses .Today, Rodenstock is
one of the leading brands of sunglasses to be found at the opticians. The
experience and special know-how of Rodenstock in spectacle lenses and frames
make the brand the ideal choice for all wearers of sunglasses who value high
quality products and for whom good vision is just as important as a good look.
FUNCTION
Even if sunglasses are often worn as fashion accessories and
as an expression of personal style, the most important function of sunglasses
is always to protect the eyes against too much sunlight. Good sunglasses
prevent dazzling and protect the eye lens and retina against damage through too
much light intensity and UV radiation
There are various aspects that play an important role for the optimum
functionality of sunglasses.
Comfort
Spectacle frames are ergonomically perfect when they are imperceptible to the
wearer: when there are no pressure points on the nose or temples, and when you
don't have to constantly readjust the frame for a perfect fit. Not only the
shape and design of the frame count, but also the choice of components they
should be as light as possible, but also provide the degree of elasticity
required of the frame.
UV protection
Most of the broad spectrum of rays that the sun radiates to the earth is
harmless and even pleasant However, UV radiation, which is also included in the
spectrum of sunlight, can be detrimental to the eyes above a certain intensity.
This results in conjunctivitis, turbidity of the cornea and eye lens, and
damage to the retina. This is why
all sunglasses from Rodenstock provide complete protection against UV radiation
and shortwave light to a wavelength of 400 nm.
Glare protection

By filtering out specific colour ranges of the incidental light you reduce
glare to a greater or lesser extent depending on the colour and tinting of the
lenses. The percentage (eg. 85%) behind the colour designation of a Rodenstock
sunglasses lens indicates the amount of incidental light that does not reach
the eye.
Contrast enhancement
Under clear blue skies the so-called diffuse sky radiation, it's particular,
has a very high concentration of blue stray light this superimposes the other
colours and reduces their contrast effect for our vision. Contract enhancing
sunglasses filter this blue stray light to a great extent from the received
visual image and thus provide a much sharper visual impression At the same time
the colours retain their natural look.
Traffic suitability
All sun protection lenses, which are used in our sunglasses, fulfil the
requirements of the CE Directive 89/686/EWG and the European Norm EN 1836: 2004
for suitability in traffic. This means that any of our sunglasses may be worn
during the day unconditionally while driving a vehicle in public traffic. This
applies also to our fashionable progressive colour shades.
Lenses

Each protective sunglass is designed for specific light conditions. The

the characteristics of the individual filter categories.
