Individual Lens Technology (ILT)
Video Impression
ILT (2)
Taking its "position of
wear" a step further, Rodenstock is currently introducing a new
customized progressive called Impression that incorporates a process
the company calls ILT (Individual Lens Technology). Like
Multigressiv lenses, the prescription curves on the backside are
aspheric/ atoric, but Impression ILT lenses also include the
progressive curves on the back.
Rodenstock believes another
important variable with progressive patients is how the eyes
converge. Narrow PD patients do not converge as much as those with
an average PD (63mm). Myopes converge less, while hyperopes have
increased convergence. Higher add powers also converge more than
weaker adds. In conventional PALs, convergence is always a standard
2.5mm for each eye. Impression ILT creates a progressive channel
customized to each patient.
Positioning the progressive
corridor on the backside also provides Impression ILT lenses with a
broader field of view and reduces peripheral distortion. To create
these highly personalized lenses, Rodenstock needs additional data
from the fitter, who provides pantoscopic angle of the patient's
frame, the amount of frame wrap, and the fitted corneal vertex
distance. To help dispensers determine these measurements,
Rodenstock has created a measuring tool. Laser markings on these
lenses are found on the backside rather than the customary front
surface.
Just as computers have
revolutionised almost every facet of every day life, so too they
have opened new vistas of opportunity for spectacle lens designers.
Computer aided design and manufacture has led to lenses of such
sophistication that they could only have been dreamt of by design
teams of just a few years ago.
One such lens is the new Impression
ILT progressive lens. The letters ILT stand for "Individual Lens
Technology" and every lens is literally designed to be as individual
and unique as the person wearing it.
The technology, developed by
Rodenstock, enables us to accommodate not only the design features
of the spectacle frame but also the anatomical facial structure of
the wearer (in relation to the ergonomics of the spectacle frame).
Using a series of special measurements taken by your optometrist or
dispenser, the laboratory makes variations and modifications to the
lens design during manufacture so that the performance of the lens
is fully optimised to your choice of frame, how the finished
spectacle will sit on your face in the position of wear and in
totality, to you as an individual. It is the ultimate in spectacle
dispensing - just for you!
Old conception
New conception
Conventional multifocal lenses have
been designed around the assumption of the angle in which the lens
sits in front of the eye. By taking these additional measurements,
we are able to produce a lens more tailored to you and the frame you
have chosen. As the position of the lens is now tailored to you, and
not the average facial measurements, a lot of the normal distortions
associated with conventional multifocals are eliminated.

The combination of these measurements makes
Rodenstock Impression ILT truly custom-made lenses. No other person will have a
lens just like it, giving you the ultimate in visual acuity.
