ANATOMY (2)
THE ANATOMICAL LAYER OF THE EYE
EYE'S LAYERS
THE SCLERA
The sclera is the white part of the eye and a very strong tissue which
protects the eye. It is 1 mm thick - the thickest layer of the eye.

THE CORNEA
The cornea is the window of the eye and consists of transparent cells.
It has a diameter of 12 mm and a thickness of 4/10th mm. The cornea
is 78% water. To remain transparent, the physiological condition of
the cornea should be kept in a good state by tears, blinking of the
lids or by contact lenses.

LA CONJONCTIVA

-
The fine mucous layer extends from the
edge of the cornea to the border of the eyelid
-
bulbar one covers the sclera and the
palpebral conjunctiva coat the interior of the eyelids
-
Produce the mucin for lachrymal film.
IRIS

The iris gives the eye its colour by means of pigment.
Light eyes contain less pigment than dark ones.

THE CHOROID

The choroid is the vascular layer of the eye housing
arteries, veins and nerves. It must remain close against the retina,
otherwise the retina will die (retinal detachment).
THE RETINA
The retina is the internal layer of the eye and is
photosensitive. It is connected to the brain. The retina consists of
mosaic cells - cones stick cells that carry information from photochemical
to electric elements. They, provide night vision and eye movements.
They also perceive colors: rom red to blue, with 100 nuances and 750
levels of luminosity, information is transmitted to the brain by the
optical nerve.

THE OPTICAL NERVE
The optical nerve is the cable that transmits optical
information to the brain. This information is then analysed by the brain,
the two images from the two eyes being fused into one image with depth
perception, colors, shades, shadows, eye movements, a marvellous process.
