Vision Abnormality Examples
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration can affect the vision in varying ways. Initially
there may be distortion or blind spots in the vision near the central,
sharpest point of vision. In more advanced cases there may be a total
obscuration of the central vision. Usually the peripheral vision is
not affected. While both eyes can be affected by macular degeneration,
what occurs in one eye does not cause or affect what happens in the
other.
An Amsler Grid is a useful tool to self-monitor the vision for early
detection of visual abnormalities which may indicate a worsening of
the condition.
