We all know the dangers of the sun, and it will always remain a pastime for people to enjoy. What the sun can do to the eyes is extremely dangerous and is often overlooked. UV rays are damaging to the retina (retinopathy), can cause inflammation or premature aging of the cornea, cataracts (opacification of  the crystalline lens) and irreversible ocular lesions.

Infrared rays disperse the sun's heat and accentuate the effects of  UV on the crystalline lens. They have a drying effect on the cornea and lead to visual fatigue.

The blue light component of the visible spectrum is not easily brought into focus by the naked eye resulting in a blurred image and visual fatigue. Moreover; blue light is responsible for the dazzling effects of strong sunlight and can lead to errors in visual perception and judgment.
