Scandinavian design

A LINDBERG frame is a real design gem - stylistically consistent with its minimalist Scandinavian design.

LINDBERG is a Danish design company being the leader within its field with its high-fashion eyewear designs that are characterised by their unique functionality and comfort. LINDBERG's pri-mary goal is to make life lighter and more beautiful for spectacle wearers worldwide.

All LINDBERG frames are customised to the individual wearer's wishes and needs. The frames are produced in Denmark - not in an ordinary factory setting with big machinery and mass production, but in a mixture of real craftsmanship, modern technology and a touch of magic.

LINDBERG frames are among the lightest frames in the world - while also being incredibly flexible and strong. The lightness is reflected in the design in which everything superfluous - such as screws, rivets and welds - have been eliminated.

The sophisticated details and the innovative design are the very values focused on in the international design world. For this reason, LINDBERG has been awarded a large number of the most prestigious design prizes in the world.

Put on a LINDBERG frame, and enjoy, see and feel the difference! You can find the LINDBERG dealer closest to you at www.LINDBERG.com.

The eyes have it

Chris Burkham discovers a brand of glasses that provides a glimpse into a better world

It's the old parlour game question:
what do Rupert Murdoch, Bill
Gates, Germaine Greer, Nell Ten-
nant, Lionel Jospin, Sophia Loren
and myself have in common? Short
answer: we all wear bespoke spec-
tacles by a small Danish company
that does not advertise, and has a
public profile as low as that of its
glasses.
Spectacles are the poor cousin in
the accessories market, probably
because they are not actually
accessories - they are necessities.
Despite the fact that major fashion
houses, from Versace to Yves Saint
Laurent, have their own lines of
spectacles, they are seldom written
about in the style bibles, nor fea-
tured in fashion shoots.
That is the preserve of sun-
glasses - of the Persols, Ray-Bans
and Police - heavily advertised by
icons such as George Clooney and
David Beckham. Spectacles are
simply not seen as a style choice;
they are something for the
afflicted. But an optometrist from
Jutland is changing all that.
In 1983 Poul-Jorn Lindberg dis-
covered that he needed glasses,
and after a quick look around his
own shop realised there was noth-
ing he would consider wearing.
This was the 1980s, of course, and

are made from titanium and weigh
less than three grammes. They
have nose-pads made from medical
silicone with no screws, rivets or
welds. From premises in Aarhus
the design team go about their
work. The finished products are
sent to hand-picked opticians
around the world.
The only way to recognise a pair
of Lindbergs is from the hinge at

the side of the hand-made frame -
though they do occasionally mark
the wearer. Thus, when Nicholas
Howard (of Castle Howard), who is
married to the head of HarperCol-
lins, Victoria Barnsley, met Rupert
Murdoch at a cocktail party, he
could only think of one thing to
say. "I see we're both wearing the
same spectacles." Consider it a
secret password.

LINDBERG 1000 Acetanium

Striking fashion eyewear weighing next to nothing…

Acetanium is fashionable eyewear with an innovative design, set apart by the exquisite interplay of colours on the acetate front and the semi-polished elegance of the titanium temples. The ingenious titanium reinforcement of the acetate bridge has allowed us to create the slimmest and most elegant acetate bridge ever seen. While the screw less hinges of the titanium temples lend a refined, exclusive look to the frame.

Acetanium has become a fashion accessory for style-conscious women and men with all the hallmarks of LINDBERG eyewear: Lightness (only 5.5 grams), flexibility, comfort and customised fit. With Acetanium, LINDBERG has eliminated the heavy and stiff acetate frame with the overly solid bridge, and in so doing has created yet another revolution in the world of eyewear!
