SUUNTO M9

Suunto M9 is designed to provide cruising and
racing sailors relevant information while sailing so that they can concentrate
more on increasing their performance and on making right decisions.
While cruising, the Suunto M9 delivers useful navigational information and helps
to keep the boat on the correct course. Up to 50 routes and 500 waypoints can be
stored in the units memory. The quick access to the MOB-feature allows quick
reaction to a Man Over Board -rescue situation during a race, the unit gives the
advantage of a better start by calculating the correct start line bias each time
the wind direction is updated. It also displays the distance to the start line
in connection with the start timer to help cross the line at the right moment.
After start, the unit helps discover changes in wind direction on upwind legs
and keeps track of laylines for optimum tacking around the buoys.
In addition to a GPS receiver, the Suunto M9 also includes a chronometer with
time sync from the GPS satellites, a graphical barometer with 7 day memory and a
tilt compensated compass.
DEEPER UNDERSTANDING
The Suunto Sail Manager software links the Suunto M9 to a PC and makes
navigation much easier by visualizing the routes and sailed tracks on ARCS
marine charts. The routes can be planned in advance on the PC and then uploaded
in to the Suunto M9. The Suunto Sail Manager allows to upload specific race
tracks to the unit even though correct positions of the turn buoys are not
known. It serves as a valuable tool for analyzing the data that the M9 has
registered and stored while in action and helps to discover what in the user's
performance needs to be improved.

enthusiast.
The Yachtsman features an accurate calendar watch with dual time, Suunto’s
famous digital compass, a barometer as well as a sailing timer especially
designed to meet the timing function requirements before and during a tough
race. Despite its exclusive looks, the Yachtsman is solid as a rock.
In the open sea, only the best will do The main features of the Yachtsman are
watch functions with a countdown timer and a dual time display, Suunto’s famous
digital compass, sailing timer and barometer. Other features include easy-to-use
logic, a large display with big numerals, an electroluminescent backlight as
well as a user-replaceable battery. The non-allergenic aluminum casing and the
durable mineral crystal glass combined with a weatherproof leather band make the
Yachtsman the ultimate tool for discerning boaters. The Yachtsman is shockproof
and waterproof to 30 m/ 100 ft.
A reliable timekeeper
The sailing timer allows the user to set the time left to start and synchronize
the timer with the race committee at any time by a push of a button. Large
numerals and audible warning signals let you concentrate more on maneuvering
your boat in the swarming of the start while the Yachtsman keeps you informed on
up-coming critical moments.
The sailing timer allows the user to choose the countdown period to the start
adjustable from 120 to 0 at different intervals. The user can at any time adjust
the countdown timer to the closest full minute: very useful for example when
checking the 5-minute signal. A beep that is heard first every 10 minutes down
to 60 minutes, then every minute and every 10 seconds during the last minute,
alerts the user to the up-coming start. During the last 10 seconds an audible
signal is heard every second.
When the countdown is completed, a stopwatch will automatically start running.
The range of the stopwatch is 120 hours, i.e. five days. Fifty waypoint times
can be stored in memory for later analysis. The sailing timer has been developed
together with some of the top sailors in the world, with experience from the
Whitbread Around the World Race to the World Championships.
The calendar watch of the Yachtsman is pre-programmed to the year 2089, has 3
daily alarms, a regular stopwatch and countdown timer. In addition, Yachtsman
also features dual time. No matter what sea you’re sailing, Yachtsman keeps you
on time!
Keep the right course
The electronic compass is a great tool for direction taking for any boater. It
shows you your bearing and cardinal or half-cardinal point, a North-South arrow,
and features a bearing tracking function which displays locked bearing, actual
bearing and the difference between the two. Yachtsman also allows for
declination adjustment. The rotating bezel with a ratchet at every five degrees
is especially useful when memorizing wind direction before the start of a
sailing race.
Keep one step ahead of the storm
In addition to current barometric pressure and temperature, Yachtsman gives
pressure-related data for the past four days: the first six hours in one-hour
intervals and after that in six-hour intervals. The resolution of the barometer
is 1 mbar/0.05 inHg. When the reference altitude is correctly set, the
instrument also shows the present sea level pressure, which makes it easier to
read and understand the barometric pressure at high altitudes. The operating
temperature is -20 - +50 Celsius, -5 - +120 Fahrenheit.
