SOFT CONTACT LENSES

Silicone Hydrogel

SILICON Hydrophilic disposable lens

A new generation of "super-permeable" contact lenses can transmit unprecedented amounts of oxygen to your cornea and, in some cases, enable 30 consecutive days of wear without removal. Silicone hydrogel contact lenses represent a breakthrough over traditional hydrogel soft contact lenses, because silicone lets so much oxygen (essential for a healthy cornea) pass through the lens.

How Silicone Hydrogel Lenses Work

Traditional soft contact lenses are made from hydrogel polymers (soft, water-containing plastics). The plastic itself is not oxygen permeable, so the water content performs the job of carrying oxygen through the lens to the eye. But water can carry only so much oxygen — and the more water a lens contains, the greater its tendency to dehydrate after long periods of wear.

Silicone is oxygen permeable. So silicone hydrogel lenses use both their water and polymer content to transmit oxygen to the eye.

Silicone hydrogel contact lenses contain less water than traditional hydrogel lenses. As a result, they aren't as prone to dehydration while you're wearing them. For some people who wear their lenses for long days, this can mean better end-of-day comfort

Because silicone hydrogel lenses provide increased oxygen to your eyes, 30-day wear isn’t the only reason to consider using them. And in fact, not all silicone hydrogel brands are approved for 30 days of wear Source.

The spherical aberration prevents the wearer of contact lenses  from having a clear and precise vision!

  • • The term "spherical aberration" indicates the incapacity of the human eye to focus simultaneously the luminous rays which pass by the centre of the pupil and those passing by its periphery.

  • • The spherical aberration concern 90% of the population, including one with a Visus of 1,0 ( "normal vision"). On average, the value of +0,15 pm is characteristic of the spherical aberration (for a pupil of 6,00 mm)

  • • The spherical aberration appears particularly under the conditions of weak luminosity, i.e. when the pupils are increased and  eye distinguishes less   contrasts and details. Consequence: the images appear fuzzy owing to the fact that the peripheral luminous rays are out of focus, but in front of the retina.

  • Contact lenses with spherical back surface induce a spherical aberration.

  • The degree of spherical aberration depends on the thickness of the contact lenses.

  • Negative spherical aberration increases as power is increased to correct myopia.

The table shown below describes the current brands of spherical silicone hydrogel lenses available, in order of highest oxygen transmissibility to lowest and two brands of toric (astigmatism correcting) silicone hydrogel lenses Source.

Lens Handling:

Orientation of the lens for astigmatim correction   Put the lens to the right side
Manipulate your lenses always in the same order. Put the lens on your finger tip.Take firmally the under lid. With the other hand lift up the upper lid and put the lens on the eye.
Look on a mirror.
Put your finger tip on the under edge of the lens and shift it donwards
Take gently the lens with the fingers. Beware of your nails.

Care of the lenses

A regular care of the lenses is very important for your contact lenses. Your contact lenses practitioner will advice you on the appropriate care regiment for your lenses.

After the wearing time:

Take the lenses out from your eyes.

Put a drop of cleaning solution to each side of the lens and rub gently the surface during 20 seconds, between the thumb and the index finger. Rinse the lenses thoroughly. And place them in the case with fresh conservation solution. The case has to be clean at least twice a week, and replaced every 6 months.

Precautions

If any problems come along, ask immediately our practitioner for an advice. If your use a care regiment not suitable to your lenses, you me impair the lenses or your sight. The immediate defects or later defects caused by a wrongly handling of the lenses, can not be the responsibility from the practitioner or the maker. Do not leave on your lens for more then 3 hours the first day of wear. And take a 2 hours steps each of the following days. Do not wear the lenses over the time recommended by your practitioner. Make a check every six months.

Usage

To compensate the optical faults of vision and ameliorate the visual acuity and for esthetical reasons.

Contra-indications:

Inflammations, infections or eye's wound. Any modifications of sensitivity from the cornea. Dry eyes syndromes. In case of any immune illness. Any Lids problems. Interaction between other chemicals. In order to avoid any problems with other care solutions, you should use the products recommended by your practitioner. Taken a long medical treatment may affect the lachrymal layer on the eye, and changes the wearing comfort. If you use eye drops, do read the notice of use.

Secondary effects

Any comfort modification during the wear of the lenses, lachrymal discharge, eye redness, diminishing of vision, or allergic reactions, must be told to your practitioner. Any negligence might lead to eye's problems.

Recommendations:

Check regularly your eyesight and your contact lens with your practitioner. Clean and disinfect regularly your contact lenses according to the method of use of your solutions. Do not over wear your lenses; change them according to your practitioner's recommendations. Do not wear any damage lens. Do not wear if you suffer from any eye's irritation or redness, consult your practitioner. Read the notice of your care regiment and the advice for stocking them.

Make-up for women

  • Always apply hair spray before inserting your lenses.

  • Always apply make-up after inserting your lenses.

  • Never allow soaps, cosmetics, or other substances to come into contact with your lenses.

  • Never apply eye make-up to the inner portion of your eyelids.

  • Never use eye make-up that is likely to run into your eye.

  • Never share or borrow eye make-up or applicator brushes.
